Meet the Ryhter Family!

Hi, neighbor! We're the Ryhters, and we're so happy you're here!

Our story started with a sunny "I do" in Cancun, Mexico, 20 years ago. More than 13 years ago, we packed up our North Seattle life and found our happy place right here in Tehaleh. These days our home is full of laughter, a little chaos, and two amazing kids who keep us very busy.

The Dream Team Behind the Magazine

Richard is our resident magician. Every page layout and ad design you see? That's his creative wizardry at work! As for me, I'm a mom first and foremost, and I wear a lot of fun hats. I've been a teacher's helper to our two kids, I sell advertising space, I connect with residents and partners to gather great stories, and I served as the fundraising board member for Lake Tapps Lacrosse.

Neither of us came from journalism or publishing, but that's never slowed us down. What we do have is a big passion for telling great stories and sharing the news that matters to our neighbors.

Our Crew

Raigan, our 19-year-old, is a law student at University of Manchester, athlete, artist, and the editor of The Land Above. (Yes, we're very proud!)

Jaxson, our 15-year-old, strums the guitar, builds amazing Lego creations, pilots simulated aircraft, Roblox pro and loves everything baseball!

How It All Began

We launched The Land Above in 2016 with a simple dream: to help build the kind of community we wanted to live in and raise our kids in, and to bring some good news to balance out the negativity on social media. Tehaleh was growing fast, and there was so much good happening that we wanted to celebrate all of it!

We also noticed it wasn't always easy to find local businesses to support. Need new insurance, a financial advisor, or an orthodontist? Thinking about selling your home, adding air conditioning, or scheduling your one-year home inspection? We've got wonderful local companies ready to help!
